Did you know that Cuba, NY has a well-groomed section of the Genesee Valley Greenway Trail? Walk, run, bike, or ski this 1.5-mile trail in our wonderful little town.

The Genesee Valley Greenway Trail runs 90 miles from Rochester, NY to the Village of Cuba (mile markers 89 and 90). Most of this trail is old railway bed that follows the old Genesee Valley Canal and Pennsylvania Railroad. The trail connects several western and central New York trails including the Genesee River Trail, the Finger Lakes Trail, the Erie Attica Trail and the Lehigh Valley Trail.


Historical features that can be found along the full trail include (Taken from https://parks.ny.gov/parks/189/maps.aspx):

  • Black Creek Canal Culvert
  • Belfast warehouse – The only surviving canal warehouse on the greenway, and locks.
  • Chili, Monroe County and Oakland, Livingston County Location: Old railway bridges and bridge abutments.
  • Oakland: Locks
  • Interpretive Signage is provided along the trail at key locations.

Cuba’s portion of the trail is a level surface covered in milled blacktop cinders. It was developed in a collaboration by the Cuba Friends of Architecture, the Village of Cuba and the Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway working with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Parking can be found at either end of the trail.
